What would you do IF you cannot boot into the home screen after you chose custom firmware FYI, the Nintendo Switch support two types of file system for the micro sd card, which is FAT32 and exFAT FAT32 is the Nintendo Switch factory-default file-system, whereas to use the exFAT file-system, you must update the console’s firmware. And it is recommended to use the exFAT file-system because we cannot store files with more than 4GB individually in FAT32 file- system. So FAT32 has a limit, and it is not practical. I don’t’ know why Nintendo didn’t use the exFAT file-system as a default file-system for this console. I think it is weird. So most of the time, the black-screen problem came from this kind of file-system madness. You use an exFAT formatted micro sd card, but the console only recognizes the FAT32 formatted micro sd card. So to fix the black screen problem after injecting the custom firmware payload, you need to change your console’s file system to exFAT. exFAT. I will show you another proof. But first, let’s get out of this black screen. I have enabled the AutoRCM before, and I will use a dongle as an indicator Now I will hold the power button until the led blinks Then, re-press the Power button to enter the Hekate menu This method should work on any other custom firmware IF you have enabled the AutoRCM Now you can remove the dongle To proof IF your console is yet to support the exFAT file system, we should disable the AutoRCM and boot the stock firmware without using Hekate. Now go to Home, then select Power Off Then turn on your console normally When you see this notification, it means that your console is yet to support the exFAT file system. The easiest way to fix this problem IS to update the console online. But, my console is super-banned so, there is no other way than to use ChoidujourNX to update the console offline. When your console is super-banned, then your console is restricted to use the Nintendo server for any mean. So no eshop, no firmware updates, no game updates, and no online gaming. But don’t worry, we have exciting apps and tools IF we could hack the console. And as I said it last time, no hack means no fun. Let’s turn off the console for now Remove the micro sd card Notice that I am using a 64 GB micro sd card. Yours might be different than mine And for my case, this micro sd card is, I am sure, have an exFAT file-system that is currently not detected on the console’s home screen. Now you need to have another micro sd card which is formatted as FAT32 OR you can try to reformat the current micro sd card as FAT32 In this video, I assume you only have one micro sd card so let’s format it to FAT32 at the moment In the previous video, I’ve said that the AtlasNX Kosmos is my favorite custom firmware package. If you agree with me, then you need to download the latest version. Otherwise, you can use any custom firmware to get the same result. to download the latest version. Otherwise, you can use any custom firmware to get the same result. Then you need to download the latest version of ChoidujourNX Download any target firmware version of your choice. I downloaded version 9.0.1 Download GUIformat to as a FAT32 formatter And you might need to download Winrar to extract the downloaded archive This is the console’s micro sd card. It doesn’t matter if you do or don’t have the same content as in this video because, at this moment, we can only open the Hekate menu. We cannot launch the custom firmware with it. Due to the fact is, it is formatted as exFAT. Close the properties and close the File Explorer Run GUIformat Select the drive letter and press Start. This action will reformat the micro sd card as FAT32. If you have any important data inside the sd card, then you need to back up the data before doing this step. Let’s open the micro sd card and check its properties The current micro sd card file-system is FAT32 and the console should be able to detect it normally Let’s extract the AtlasNX Kosmos archive into the micro sd card Open the ChoidujourNX archive, then open the switch folder on the micro sd card. Drag the .nro file into this folder. Open the target firmware archive, create a new folder on your micro sd card and name it as you like. Extract all the firmware archive into this folder. Reinsert the micro sd card into the console. Since I have disabled the AutoRCM, then we need to remove the right joycon and insert the RCM jig Now insert the dongle or a USB cable with tegraRCMGUI if you use a PC to inject the payload Press and hold the Volume UP button then press the power button You can remove the dongle and the RCM jig You may insert the right joycon Now we are going to re-enable the AutoRCM Press the Tools button Select AutoRCM Press the AutoRCM button then press OK Press the Home button Select Launch, select CFW SYSNAND You should be able to boot into the home screen. If you still get a blank screen, then recheck your micro sd card file-system. Make sure it has a FAT32 file system, not exFAT, at least for now. Hold the R button then open the Album Select ChoidujourNX Select the target firmware folder Press Choose button At this step CHOOSE exFAT. Do not press the other button. Press Select Firmware Then press Start Installation If the console freezes somewhere at this process, then maybe there is a problem with your micro sd card, or you missed some firmware files. So recheck those things. Then press Reboot Press Reboot now You can try Launching the custom firmware, but we are not done yet. The console should be able to boot into the home screen, although the micro sd card has the FAT32 file system, not vice versa. So the console that has capabilities reading the exFAT file system is more flexible than the console that only accepts the FAT32 file system. You can go into the system settings and check the data management menu to check if the console detects the micro sd card Remember, this micro sd card has a FAT32 file-system BTW, I have installed the custom eMMC module so don’t be surprised If my console has a massive internal storage capacity. Let’s turn off the console for now. Remove the micro sd card This is the console’s micro sd card, and if we open its properties, it has a FAT32 file-system. We will reformat this card as exFAT. If you have any important data inside this card, then you back it up before formatting. To format this card as exFAT, simply press the right mouse button then select Format Make sure to choose the exFAT file system, then press Start Now if we look its properties, the card is now has an exFAT file system. It’s time to re-extract the custom firmware files to the micro sd card. For my case, I will extract the newest version of Atlas NX Kosmos If you want to use the signature patches, then go to joonie86 github page, select hekate, then download the latest version Open the sigpatches archive then extract all its content to the micro sd card. Replace the existing files Now you are done with the micro sd card. Insert the micro sd card into the console Since I have enabled the AutoRCM, then I just need to plug in the dongle then press the power button to enter the Hekate menu Now you can remove the dongle Select Launch, then choose CFW SYSNAND Now your console should be able to boot into the home screen using an exFAT formatted micro sd card. If you still get a black screen at this step, then you should go back to minute 5:07 To proof it, go to the system settings, select Data Management and you can see the micro sd card capacity. But in exFAT version And there you go, I think that’s all I need to say about handling the problems with the FAT32 or the exFAT file system on the Nintendo Switch. I hope it helped you.
