Updating the FileHub Firmware from your iPhone or iPad

Updating the FileHub Firmware from your iPhone or iPad

Hey there, Matt Williams, Technovangelist
here. The other day, someone asked me about updating
the firmware on the RAVPower FileHub. It looks like the RAVPower website talks about
doing the update with Windows and Android but no indication about if its possible from
iOS or the Mac. It turns out there isn’t much difference in
doing it from the various platforms. Though on IOS the challenge is probably unzipping
it, which you can do from the new Shortcuts. But its also really easy to do from the FileBrowser
app I mentioned in the previous video, linked here. If you like videos like this, consider hitting
that subscribe button below. And if you have any experience with the device,
share them with everyone in the comments section. It looks like I have Firmware Version 2.0.036
and the current version on the website is 2.0.038. So I guess its time to update. The biggest challenge is finding the firmware. Just go to the RavPower website, click on
Support, then Download. Scroll the list over to filehub and click
it. Now click the WD007, assuming you are trying
to update the newer filehub. Click the file to download it. Click “more” to open the file in a different
app and choose FileBrowser. Have I mentioned recently how cool this app
is. Have I also mentioned that you should subscribe
to this channel? It’s easy to do, just click that link in the
bottom right corner of the video or click the big subscribe link below the video. And check me out on Twitter and Instagram
where I am also technovangelist. OK, back to the firmware update. Paste the file to where ever you are. Then when the file is downloaded, click it
to open the file. It creates a directory with the files in it. Navigate in and click the vertical ellipses/menu
button on the right. Choose Copy or Move. Navigate to the FileHub and paste the file
to the root of the SD Card. Now switch over to the FileHub app and then
settings, system settings, then firmware upgrade. Now just wait. Go get a coffee. But rather than wait all that time in this
video I am just going to magically skip to the end. It lets you know the update completed. There are two more critical things you need
to do at this point. The first is to connect to the FileHub. Navigate to the about screen on settings to
verify that the update completed. Yup, there is version 2.0.038. First step done. The last step is to click on another technovangelist
video that you can see linked here. Alternatively you can click on subscribe. I look forward to seeing you again soon. bye.

  • Your next video is to teach Ravpower users how to drag and drop using the Filebrowser app. This IOS feature makes uploading/saving files into Ravpower a breeze versus using Menus.

  • Still waiting for this file hub to be available either on Amazon or their website. Hopefully when it is, itโ€™ll be fully updated? Love your content sir! ๐Ÿ˜

  • Matt, I attempted this with my filehub and it will not allow me to select the root folder. I noticed that OOB the firmware was much older. Do you think this method will only work for slightly more recent firmwares?

  • My RP-WD009 came with firmware 2.000.004. RavPower apps and website leaves a lot to be desired. First, why does it seem to be multiple FileHub apps for iOS? Second, do any of their developers know how to add the in-app firmware option? And lastly, I updated to 2.000.008, yet there was know release note telling me why.

  • Great video – and I'm watching it 2 months after you posted it, and I can't find the link to the new firmware – their website seems to have removed all ref to the WD007. Any pointers/other details you can share?

EDIT – found this…. hope it helps others! https://www.ravpower.com/downloads-83-13000-001.html

  • Hi I just got the WD009, I get to the download site, type in my e-mail adresse, but I don't get any zip file, just an e-mail from VAVA.
    can you help me? ๐Ÿ™

  • Thanks for the video. When I complained to RAV that the SD card cannot be formatted for Mac and there was little Mac help. they offered only to give me a refund! Your iPhone help is a step in the Apple direction! HOWEVER… My RP-WD01 frequently cannot connect to my iPhone, and loses connection in the middle of playing a song often. AND the About page has a blank space after "Firmware version, even after sucessfully following your directions and seeing a firmware updated! message on my app. (BTW the App version IS given. It is 1.3.482.
    I use an iPhone 5S iOS 11.4.1 (15G77)

Any ideas how to fix the connection problem? (I tried moving the RAV really close, middle distance, and far from the iPhone- makes no difference.)

  • Hi I'm lost @1:46 navigating to the filehub and getting to the SD root.
Can you clarify this? I just downloaded the filebrowswergo app DLed the firmware but how to connect to the filehub and reach the SD root?
    Thanks!
