What’s it like being a software engineer at Bulb?

Something that’s really important to me
is just that I work somewhere that I really identify with the goals of the company. The company mission is really clear, we want to get as many people on green energy as possible;
everyone is really driven by that. But also from a tech and product side of it, everyone’s
also very passionate about what they do. Automating things that are low-hanging fruit; that’s
what allows us to move quicker, faster and do more interesting things. The whole team is multidisciplinary, so we work with product managers, designers, testers, user researchers
within the same team, so we’ll all work together to design and develop a new feature. From our perspective, if there’s a really clean process for joining, and if there aren’t
enrolment errors, and things like this, then those are less people starting chat, less
people ringing up, less people sending in emails Lots of companies will focus on things
to “done” and then they’ll hand it over to a different team to ship. Across most of
the teams in Bulb, we’re really focused on tracking things through to deployment,
so it’s your responsibility to ship your feature as well. We pushed something out the
other day. Harry, one of our new engineers, deployed a feature around changing passwords
and making that much easier, and we then kind of like all gathered around a screen to, like,
watch the first few people using it which was, which was really fun. I think everyone here understands that the time you put in to someone else becoming better is only gonna,
you know, bring more value to your team in the end. So I would say it’s a lot more
collaborative than it is competitive. As long as you’ve got, like, a development background,
and you’re passionate about what you’re writing and working on, those are the two
most important things.
